The Refugee and Migrant Centre (RMC) empowers refugees and migrants to overcome barriers by providing free, expert support for successful community integration.

With a focus on empowerment, inclusivity, quality, and collaboration, we strive to build a society where everyone truly belongs and can contribute meaningfully.

To build independence, understanding, and belonging, we need a strong community and the ability to offer wide-ranging support.

Support areas

Immigration

RMC is regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) and is accredited to provide free immigration advice up to Level 3 of IAA which includes representation before the First-tier and Upper Tribunal.

We provide free immigration advice and casework to migrants (including undocumented migrants), refugees, and asylum-seekers to enable them to navigate the UK’s complex immigration legal system and secure the right to remain in the UK for themselves and their families.

Employment, Training & Education

RMC offer a tailored support package helping people move towards achieving their personal goals in life through skills and language development, as well as providing opportunities to gain experience.

Our support offering varies between our centres. Get in touch and see what support we can provide.

English Clases

For years, RMC have been providing English classes at a range of levels. Our non accredited classes range from drop in sessions to structured courses covering all ESOL levels.

At RMC our team of teachers offer classes for all eligible refugees and migrants, including asylum-seekers.

Health

RMC has dedicated health caseworkers. Their task is to assist our beneficiaries in accessing the healthcare they require, often liaising with health professionals as they do so. In Wolverhampton, we also have a dedicated Community Psychiatric Nurse.

Any beneficiary of RMC can get support from our health team.

Typically, the health team helps RMC’s most vulnerable clients. Asylum seekers, refused asylum seekers, overstayers, those with no recourse to public funds, homeless clients, and those who have experienced domestic violence.

Housing & Homelessness

RMC aims to help our most vulnerable beneficiaries avoid homelessness. We support beneficiaries with their housing issues and help them understand their eligibility for housing in their local authority. Our advisors can provide emergency support for those who are destitute to access the funding they are eligible for and ensure they can meet their daily living needs.

Any asylum seeker, refugee or migrant can access this support.

We support those who are living in unsuitable or unsafe accommodations, rough sleepers, individuals with pending evictions, and NRPF clients with no access to mainstream housing.

Financial Independence

RMC provides information and support in a range of languages to ensure that our beneficiaries get all the help that they’re entitled to. For example, welfare benefits and tax credits if they are working or unemployed, sick or disabled, a parent, a young person, or an older person.

RMC also helps with council tax and housing costs, national insurance, and problems with benefits.

Any asylum seeker, refugee or migrant can access this support.

Citizenship

At RMC, we pride ourselves in the support we provide our beneficiaries through the daunting citizenship application process. Our team of regulated advisors will assess each individual case and provide advice on the requirements that one needs to meet in order to become a British Citizen, the final step of their integration journey.

We provide initial advice,  assist with document preparation and application submission. Post application, we can assist with passport applications.

Resettlement

RMC runs several Resettlement and Integration Programmes across all our bases, which include a variety of packages of support to settle, integrate, and build a new life in the UK. Each package is designed to provide the level of support required for the new arrivals and is delivered by our specialist team.

Take a look at the different resettlement schemes, plus how the resettlement journey actually works.

" The thing I enjoyed most about volunteering was being able to meet individuals with different backgrounds and different experiences and be able to help them as they navigate their life. I also enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the refugee and immigration processes that many people go through and how challenging integrating can be for many ".

“RMC showed us we can continue our goals. It’s not easy to start again and settle in a new country but I found it easy because RMC supported me. As a result of their hard work, we are continuing with our goals. Masuma is an artist and has joined an art course and I am working and getting further qualifications in my career of Human Resources.”

Afghan Resettlement Clients

This country made up of many communities is a better place for it. Walsall provides a warm welcome through its resettlement programmes – the Syrians, Afghans and now it will be the Ukrainians and has government backing. We need specialists like RMC to support this integration work.

Eddie Hughes
MP for Walsall North

"Your unwavering support and willingness to help me with everything mean more to me than words can convey.

Whether it's lending a listening ear, offering valuable advice, or simply being there when I need someone to rely on, you consistently go above and beyond."

“[RMC] Have been so supportive… There’s no matter how worried you are, they will always find a way out for you. Find an answer for you.

When I came to England with my family my children had no [access to] education, no clothing, no money. We didn’t know where to start. Now today I have the answers. My first daughter is gong to finish her GSCES tomorrow and I am grateful to wolves council and the community.

Today, we are happy. “
