Afghan Resettlement

Our Afghan project began in 2020 and is funded by the Home Office to resettle those currently or formerly employed by British forces Afghanistan who have been assessed to be at serious risk of threat to life.

RMC runs several Resettlement and Integration Programmes across all our regions which include a variety of packages of support to settle, integrate a build a new life in the UK.

Initial arrival

Our teams were on hand to greet new arrivals once identified by the Home office. Working with local authorities, RMC prepared the houses and greeted the families. This initial support included integration walks, registrations with schools, GPs and other key services and being on hand to answer any questions the new families may have.

Continued support

Once families had settled into the local area, they were introduced to the emergency services where they had a chance to meet police and other services to understand how things worked in the UK. CV workshops and job skill sessions were provided for those seeking work and children were supported with school work and finding activities in the local community. Plus celebrations were held at key times such as Christmas and Eid to hand out presents, trips were organised and our casework team were always on hand to provide any immigration, welfare and benefits support required.

Additional support

Alongside providing support for those being resettled in Wolverhampton and Walsall, RMC were also providing key support to those in temporary accommodation awaiting housing. This involved a specialist team based in the temporary accommodation who were the point of contact for all agencies. From GP’s to Home office representatives, the RMC team supported the Afghans to complete appointments, ensure they had the right documentation and feel supported. On top of this, regular ESOL classes were delivered in the accommodation to begin to help build the language skills of those arriving.
