Resettlement and Integration

RMC runs several Resettlement Schemes as part of the Home Office Resettlement programmes in both Walsall and Wolverhampton. This involves full wrap-around support for people in vulnerable situations.

Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP)

What is it?

This project supports those currently or formerly employed by British forces Afghanistan who have been assessed to be at serious risk of threat to life. They will be eligible to apply for ARAP regardless of their employment status, rank/role, or length of time served.

There are three main elements to the project:

  • The Home Office generates a list of those being relocated based
  • The Local Authorites offer housing they will be able to provide
  • Once housing and people have been matched, RMC takes over and provides support to the individuals/families to settle and integrate into the community

RMC’s role

RMC are leading in the relocation of 160 Afghans in Wolverhampton and Walsall.

Since the first flights, 88 people have already been resettled, which means 17 families are now safe and being supported. More families are still to arrive, and our team are busy preparing accommodation, school places and everything else you would need to integrate into life in the UK

Me and my family since coming and living here feel very happy and safe. RMC staff make me and my family so happy. RMC is helping us all. RMC make us feel very safe.

Recent Afghan arrival

Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) for Syrian Refugees

This project was launched back in 2014 in response to the situation in Syria at the time. The UK Government pledged to resettle 20,000 Syrians over 5 years.

RMC was the lead on the delivery for this in Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Local Authorities pledged to resettle a certain number of people, and individuals could apply to the scheme from Refugee camps in countries surrounding Syria.

RMC was provided with pre-arrival information for each family, and prepared everything required such as school places for children, hospital visits for those with medical needs, housing and more.

The Resettlement team then picked up families from the airport, and continued to provide specialist support for 5 years to ensure quality integration.

To date, RMC have supported 7 families in Walsall and 25 families in Wolverhampton.
