Walsall Festival of Unity: A Day to Connect, Create and Celebrate

On Monday 30th March, RMC hosted the Festival of Unity, bringing the Walsall community together for a day full of laughter, creativity and shared moments. Families, friends and neighbours came together to celebrate community, creativity and connection across the town.

Bringing the community together

In the weeks leading up to the festival, we worked with MindKind, Manor Farm, the Old Hall People’s Partnership and Bloxwich Community Centre to host smaller events such as story exchanges, art workshops, afternoon tea and an Iftar. The stories and creations from these sessions were showcased at the festival, giving everyone a chance to see the creativity and voices of Walsall’s community.

Creating connections

On the day, the festival was full of energy and fun. Children were delighted by a magician and face painting, families were visited by the Easter Bunny who shared Easter eggs, and there were creative activities including cupcake decorating and art displays. Music added to the lively atmosphere, and there was plenty of food for everyone to enjoy while connecting with neighbours and friends.
Brendan O’Driscol from Multibank was our main speaker. He inspired everyone with his message about the community and the work that Multibank does locally. Multibank also generously donated gifts for the children, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Creating memories together

Support from the Council’s Community Cohesion Team was invaluable, with Paul Gordon, Sarah Oakley and Harjinder Lal attending to show their support. There were also stalls from local partners including MindKind, DAWS (Green Square Accord), Walsall College, One Walsall, Multibank, Roshni, the Inclusion Health Visiting Team, Khaushalja and Aspire and Achieve Walsall, where they engaged with the community, shared information, and connected with residents throughout the day.
The Festival of Unity offered something for everyone. Beyond the activities, it was about people connecting, sharing experiences, celebrating each other, and enjoying creative, fun moments together. It was a day full of new connections and opportunities for people across Walsall to meet, collaborate and be part of the community.
