Background
Omar*, a 27‑year‑old Birmingham resident, found himself at a difficult crossroads after being made redundant from his previous role. Despite having a degree in Business Computing and five years of experience, his job search had hit a wall. For months, Omar applied for roles without receiving any responses, leaving him feeling frustrated and demotivated. The silence from employers during the slow summer months began to severely impact his confidence, making his goal of returning to work feel increasingly out of reach.
Finding support with RMC
Through a recommendation from a family friend, he reached out to RMC and began working with an employment advisor. The advisor, Radovan, took time to learn about Omar’s skills and long-term goals. They reviewed his CV, assisted him to restructure it to highlight his transferable skills and offered crucial advice on how to navigate the job market. However, the support went beyond just paperwork.
For Omar, the encouragement he received was just as vital as the practical advice. On days when he felt overwhelmed, the sessions provided a necessary morale boost. He recalls, “I remember leaving the office 10 times more positive, compared to when I arrived.” This emotional support helped rebuild the self-belief he needed to perform well in interviews.
The outcome
The combination of a professional CV and renewed confidence yielded results. Omar secured a role as a Business Analyst/Technical Data Engineer, a position that aligns with his skills and ambitions and enables him to contribute his expertise to the UK economy at a time when digital and data skills are in high demand. RMC supported him to move past a difficult period and step into new opportunities.
Omar reflects on his experience with RMC: “It made me feel supported, reassured, and motivated. The process helped me stay grounded and optimistic during a frustrating job search, and now I feel excited and ready to start a new chapter in my life.” Omar also confirms that he has already recommended the service to his sister and friends, ensuring others know they don’t have to navigate the job market alone.
