Every small act of kindness can create a positive force
RMC Caseworker Liew supports a diverse community including vulnerable individuals. He sees daily how compassion shapes lives and states that working at RMC has enabled him “the opportunity to participate meaningful activities while connecting with a supportive network of people”
While extremely committed to supporting people through his professional life, one of his most meaningful contributions happens away from the office at a blood donation centre.
Of Chinese descent, originally from South-East Asia, Liew felt an immediate connection to RMC’s Bloody Foreigners Campaign. Its message, celebrating migrants and communities that step forward to give blood and save lives, struck him as both powerful and personal. For him, the campaign is about belonging. It’s about showing that the UK’s healthcare system is shaped by many hands, many histories, many communities.
He says he resonates with the campaign because the “contributions of people from all different communities help create a more connected, caring society”
Rolling up his sleeves
Liew’s own journey as a blood donor began in 2006. Since then, he has rolled up his sleeve 26 times. Each donation can save up to three people, meaning Liew has potentially saved 78 lives. Each time he is reassured that somewhere, someone would get another chance at life because of it. Reflecting on his motivation, Liew says: “knowing that each donation has the potential to save a life, and to give someone the gift of health is an incredible feeling to be able to provide. Being able to donate blood is a very simple and impactful way for me to help those in need and to positively contribute to the community.”
Liew believes that life is precious and helping people is part of who he is. Saving lives does not always require heroic gestures. Sometimes it is as small as an hour of your time. As Liew puts it: “It gives me a sense of purpose to know that this simple act can offer support or hope to someone who truly needs it.”
We need you to take action
Through every donation, Liew gifts more than blood. He offers a lifesaving resource, giving people hope. And in doing so, he embodies exactly what RMC celebrates: the kindness and generosity of people who make the UK a more connected and inclusive place.
