Case Study: Homeless, destitute and 8 months pregnant

Miss C appeared at our offices one Friday afternoon. She was Chinese, spoke very little, if any, English, was heavily pregnant, had no money and was street homeless. We believe she had been trafficked having come to this country to sell DVDs on the streets.

After our Mandarin speaking caseworker had understood the client’s situation, we phoned partners at Wolverhampton City Council to explain her position, they were able to allocate her a Bed and Breakfast room in the city for a few days.

We then took her to a GP and helped her get registered and at the same time she was registered and examined by a mid-wife who confirmed her 8- month pregnancy. We made an appointment for Ms C to come to our offices the following Monday to start the process of regularising her status, gave her £20 from our destitution fund to buy food and toiletries for the week-end and took her to her B&B accommodation.
